FEATURES INTRODUCED IN MICROSOFT WORD 2013

Well if you want to upgrade from old versions to new versions of Microsoft Word you need identify the new features introduced in Microsoft word 2013. It’s a big list new features you want to aware of, depending on the older versions of Word. Take note the features that introduced in Word 2007 and Word 2010.

Upgrading from Word 2003
Note the features that introduced in Word 2007 if you are upgrading from 2003. Word 2007 introduced with more improved features, following:
> SmartArt Graphics tool: Use to create diagrams with three-Dimensional shapes, transparency, Drop shadows, and more effects.
> Building blocks: Its include sets of matching cover pages, quotes boxes, sidebars and headers and footers
> Preview: Live Preview the effect of a style, other formatting option, theme before you apply it.
> Charting: Enter data in a linked Excel Worksheet and watch as the data is instantly plotted in the Chart type of your choosing.
> Ribbon: The interface organizes all the commands use most often, making quickly accessible from tabs at the top of he program window. No more going through menus, submenus, and dialog boxes.
 > Style and Theme: Quickly Change the look of a document by applying a different style set and theme, previewing its effect before making selection.
> File format: The Microsoft Office Open XML Formats reduce file size and help avoid loss of data.

Upgrading from Word 2007 
Note the features that introduced in Word 2010 if you are upgrading from 2007. Word 2010 introduced with more efficient working environment and improved features, following:
> Graphics Editing: After inserting a picture, you can edit it in multiple ways. You can change color, brightness, and contrast, you can remove the background and exciting of all, apply artistic effects that make it appear like a watercolor, pencil drawing or pastel sketch.
> Coauthoring: A team of authors can work simultaneously on a document stored in a SharePoint site document library or SkyDrive folder.
> Ribbon: The improved customizable ribbon, create your own tabs and groups to suit the way you work.
> Screen shots and screen clippings: You don’t need to go out of Word when you want to insert screen image into a document. This capability is built into Word.
> Backstage View: All the tools are accessible you need to work with your files from one location. Display the Backstage view by clicking the File Tab, which replaces the Microsoft Office Button.
> Language support: You can easily tailor the language of your working environment, but can also use translation tools to collaborate with the peoples of different countries with different language.
> Text Effects: WorkArt has had a makeover. Not only can WordArt be used to create Distinctive headlines, but effects can be used on any text.
> Smart Art Graphic Tools: You can include pictures in addition to text in your SmartArt diagrams.
> Unsaved file recovery: Word preserves temporary versions of your unsaved files so that you can recover them if you need them.
> Navigation pane: The replacement for the Document map not only provides a mean of navigation to any heading but also to any page or to any search term you enter. 

Upgrading from Word 2010
The new features introduced between Word 2010 and 2013 include the following:
> Cloud access: Connecting Word or Office installation to a Microsoft account, you have the option of savings documents to your SkyDrive or other Shared locations, after saving you and your colleagues can simultaneously work on one version of document.
> Start screen: Start screen provides quick access to recent documents and to document templates, when we start Word without opening a specific document.
> Read mode: This view, which replaces the Full Screen Reading view, provides a simpler interface for reviewing documents.
> Smart guides: On a page when you place or move a graphic element, on screen guides appear to help you align the graphic with other page elements such as margins and paragraphs.
> Live layout: You drag a photo, video or shape to its new position text reflows instantly, and when you release the mouse button, your object and surrounding text stay where you want them.
> PDF Re-flow: When you open a PDF in Word, its paragraphs, list, tables, and other content act just like Word content.
> Present Online: You can share your documents with others even if they don’t have Word. As you display the document on your screen, they can follow along in their browsers.
> Previous location bookmark: When you close a document, Word marks the location where you were working. The next time you open the document even on a different computer, if the document is saved in a shared location a Resume Reading alert appears, to make it easy to return to that location.
> Reply Comment: With these new features you can place comments next to the text you’re discussing so it’s easy to track the conversation.

ADD SUPERSCRIPT IN EXCEL

Well unlike MS Word, MS Excel does not enable us to superscript specific values. We can superscript all the contents of a cell but not individual characters. If we need to donate a square of a number, so in Excel we cannot do that directly. We can however tweak the settings using the find and replace dialog box. To do so we need to carry out the following steps:
> Go to the ‘Home’ tab.
> Click the ‘Find & Select’ option appearing under the ‘Editing’ group.
> Select the ‘Replace’ option from the drop down menu.
NOTE: Alternatively, Press the (Ctrl) + (H) keys.

 
> Type the full number in the ‘Find What’ textbox of the ‘Find & Replace’ dialog box.
> In the ‘Replace With’ textbox enter the base number. While keeping the (Alt) key pressed, press (0) + (1) + (7) + (8) one after the other from the numeric keypad. Make sure ‘Num Lock’ is turned on.
> The number 2 appears as a superscript character.
> Click the ‘Replace’ button to replace similar values.
> Try and enjoy. 

CONFIGURING THE TAB KEY IN EXCEL

Essentially the [Tab] key is used for navigate between cell. You can use the [Tab] key, even if the [Scroll Lock] or sheet protection is enabled. If the key does not however help you navigate, you can configure it to do so. Just try carry out the following steps:




> Open Excel
> Go to 'File' tab
> Then go to Excel 'Options'
> Click the 'Advanced' option on the left panel.
> Go to the 'Lotus Compatibility' section
> Clear the 'Transition Navigation Keys' option.
> Click 'OK' to continue.
> Done enjoy

CHECK SPELLING IN EXCEL

If you are submitting reports in Excel, it is advisable that you run the spell check wizard for your worksheet before you send it across for further inspection. It is the same tool that appears in the other applications of the office package. You can either check entire worksheet at once or you can conduct spell check on specific parts of the sheet.

 To run the complete spell check, carry out the following steps:

> Go to ‘Review’ tab

> Click the ‘Spelling’ option appearing under the ‘proofing’ group of the tab.

Note: You can use the [F7] function key to start the spell check utility.

> Click ‘Yes’ on the dialog box that appears to check from the beginning of the sheet.

> Check the required buttons to accept suggested changes as required.

> To check spellings in a specific range of cells, carry out the following steps:

> Select the cell range that need to be checked.

> Go to the ‘Review’ tab.

> Click the ‘Spelling’ option appearing under the ‘proofing’ group of the tab.

> Check the specified buttons on the basis of your requirements to accept suggested changes.

ADDING GLYPH AUTOMATICALLY IN WORD

There are certain symbols which are not readily available on your keyboard. Such symbols are known as glyphs and can be found as symbols in your character map.
If you need to add such characters often you can use the auto correct option to help you replace related text with such symbols.

If you need do so with Word, carry out the following steps:

> Go to the ‘Insert’ tab.
> Click the ‘Symbols’ option appearing in the ‘Symbol’ group of the tab.
> Click the ‘More Symbols’ option appearing at the foot of the drop down list.
> Select the required symbol.
> Click the ‘Auto Correct…’ button from the ‘Symbol’ dialog box.
> Type the text identifier to be replaced with the symbol.
> Click ‘Add’ to add the entry.
>Click ‘Ok’ to close the window.
> Click ‘Close’ to close the ‘Symbol’ window.
> Now just type the identifier Word and press the [Spacebar] for glyph to be inserted into your document.

NOTE: If you need the word to be kept as it is and not converted into a glyph, just click ‘Undo’ after the ‘AutoCorrect’ action appears.

If you are using Word 2003 instead, carry out the following steps:

> Go to the ‘Insert’| Symbol…’ menu command.
> The ‘Symbol’ dialog box opens. Click the ‘AutoCorrect…’ button.
> Continue with steps as explained above.

BLOGGING WITH WORD

Fed up of coping/pasting or uploading into your blog? Word 2010 allows you to post your literary outpourings straight from your document, without having to go through the process of opening a browser, logging in and uploading.
  Just click on the Office button on the top left above the ribbon (File). Click on the New tab and choose the Blog post button. Click on the Create button on the right. You need to register your blog. You can choose from the most popular ones such as WordPress, TypePad etc.  
  All you have to do then, is to fill the User ID and password from your blog. Once you are done with your blog post, simply click on the Publish button on the top left of the ribbon 
     

HIDING AND UNHIDING ROWS IN EXCEL 2003/2007

You might have rows in your worksheet which are essential part of your data, but may not be much relevance to be displayed or printed. Such rows can be hidden while viewing or printing. These hidden rows are not deleted, their row height is merely set at zero. To hide/unhide rows using Excel 2003, follow the steps bellow:
 > Select the rows or one or more cells from the rows to be hidden.
> Go to the 'Format| Row | Hide' menu option. The selected rows are hidden.
> To unhide the rows, select the rows on both sides of those that are hidden.
> Go to the 'Format| Row | Unhide' menu option.
> To hide/unhide rows using Excel 2007, select the cells or the complete you wish to hide.
> Go to the 'Home' tab
> Click the 'Format'option appearing under the 'Cells' group.
> Click 'Hide & Unhide' from the drop down menu that appears.
> Click 'Hide Rows' from the sub menu. The selected rows are hidden.
> To unhide rows, select the rows on both side of those that are hidden.
> Go to the 'Home' tab.
> Click the 'Format' option appearing under the 'Cells' group.
> Click 'Hide & Unhide' from the drop down menu that appears.
> Click 'Unhide Rows' from the sub menu. The hidden rows are now displayed.  

ADJUST PAGE LAYOUT TO OTHER DOCUMENT IN WORD

Most the official documents are normally based on adjusted Page Setups so as to be able to print them on a certain type of papers. You can apply these settings to other documents as well.
Just a simple trick can be used to apply the page layout quickly and without programming. Open the document with the correct page layout and the document to be adjusted. Then use the ‘File –Page setup’ command in the finished document. Do not make any changes and confirm the settings dialog box with ‘OK’ instead of ‘Cancel’. Now switch to the next document.

WORD IN READING LAYOUT

Word does not open documents automatically in the reading layout.

Word opens documents received via email in the reading layout. It is well meant, but you prefer the normal view. Hence you always have to change the display first.

You can deactivate the display of the reading layout permanently in the program options.

For that, open ‘Tools-Options ‘and change to the ‘General’ tab
