There are certain symbols which are not readily available on
your keyboard. Such symbols are known as glyphs and can be found as symbols in your
character map.
If you need to add such characters often you can use the
auto correct option to help you replace related text with such symbols.
> Go to the ‘Insert’ tab.
> Click the ‘Symbols’ option appearing in the ‘Symbol’
group of the tab.
> Click the ‘More Symbols’ option appearing at the foot
of the drop down list.
> Select the required symbol.
> Click the ‘Auto Correct…’ button from the ‘Symbol’ dialog
box.
> Type the text identifier to be replaced with the
symbol.
> Click ‘Add’ to add the entry.
>Click ‘Ok’ to close the window.
> Click ‘Close’ to close the ‘Symbol’ window.
> Now just type the identifier Word and press the [Spacebar]
for glyph to be inserted into your document.
NOTE: If you need the word to be kept as it is and not converted
into a glyph, just click ‘Undo’ after the ‘AutoCorrect’ action appears.
If you are using Word 2003 instead, carry out the following
steps:
> Go to the ‘Insert’| Symbol…’ menu command.
> The ‘Symbol’ dialog box opens. Click the ‘AutoCorrect…’
button.
> Continue with steps as explained above.
